Food 360 - The Future
East Hull's community food project, Food 360, is looking to spread the word with its expertise and passion for local produce as its current Lottery funding comes to a close.

The campaign, run by city social enterprise, Probe, has been encouraging residents to try local produce, grow their own food and use seasonal ingredients in recipes. Thousands of people have been involved with the project through community events, cookery courses and becoming food gardeners. Food 360 has also organised the Bitesize Kids’ Area for two years at Hull's Yum Festival. Cookery-demonstrator Margaret Hickling also showed off her culinary skills at the national Edible Garden Show and made her debut at the Yum Festival in 2011.

The Food 360 trio of co-ordinator Adrian Fisher, cookery-demonstrator Margaret and gardener-demonstrator Louis Bobillier believe more people and organisations could adopt the trend of growing-your-own. Their belief is to offer their range of services from event-organising with its Food 360 roadshow, to cookery demonstrations and gardening consultations. Their target markets include businesses, charities, community groups and councils

Adrian Fisher says: “We’'ve a real passion for local and good food and want to share this enthusiasm, particularly by educating people about the virtues of growing your own and the real benefits of self-sufficiency.

“Our Lottery-funded work has been a success, but it would be sad to lose our expertise as the project in its current form comes to a close and we need to become sustainable too. I believe our work in the community has been invaluable and we have built up a database of traders and suppliers whose businesses have grown and become better known since becoming involved with Food 360.”

"We could be hired for community events, to give advice on creating a vegetable garden, provide support for companies delivering corporate social responsibility projects, and to bring cookery courses into schools.”
